Since 2006, fire departments participating in the Bucket Brigade Challenge have recruited nearly 10,000 participants who donated thousands of units of blood for patients in Northern California hospitals. Last year, Windsor Fire Protection District took home the coveted Bucket Trophy with 86 participants.

These meetings will be held on January 13, 2018, and January 20, 2018, at 1 PM at at the Guerneville Elementary School gymnasium, 14630 Armstrong Woods Road, Guerneville, CA 95446.

With the return of fall rains the risk of wildfires has thankfully been reduced. We ask that you continue to follow regulations when it comes to open burning. Remember the process to have a control burn is to have a Valid Burn Permit.

As many Gazette readers know, we want our readers to make educated votes when they go to the poles. Our next election will be the first time in decades that our county has had a chance to elect a new sheriff. At this point in the primary elections, we have three candidates running. When votes are counted in June, we will know which two of the three will continue on to November.

Sonoma County Rises, a community based, wildfire recovery focused organization, has launched aCommunity Outreach Survey to gain insight into Sonoma County residents’ attitudes five months after the October wildfires. The Survey, atwww.socorises.org, seeks to gain information from a broad section of the community living here now to best inform and guide decision-makers about what matters most as they plan for recovery and rebuilding.

Supervisor Lynda Hopkins held a town hall meeting on 2/24 about establishing MACs (Municipal Advisory Councils). This is a work-in-progress and will be a mechanism for our lower Russian River area residents to have a form of self-governance.
