In the Fifth District, we’ve been talking a lot about carrying capacity these days.bOur office defines carrying capacity as the maximum number of visitors that a site can satisfy at one time. I think if you survey any west county resident, they’ll likely tell you we’re nearing, have reached or have far exceeded the area’s carrying capacity — especially during summer, when tourists seek respite from summertime heat, and especially along the river and coast.

Whew. After one week of deliberations, the Board of Supervisors has ratified the county’s 2018-19 operating and capital budget, totalling $1.68 billion. Looking toward the future with the hope of rebuilding our County after last fall’s horrific fire, we approved a strategic budget that will help us ride out our current storm while also preparing for challenges we anticipate and expect in the future.

We held our second Lower Russian River MAC informational meeting on Wednesday, May 9. During the meeting we shared the proposed boundary for the LRR MAC. We expect the boundary to encompass the area of Forestville, Guerneville, Rio Nido, Monte Rio, Duncans Mills and Cazadero (minus the west hills).

Hey west county—it’s time to talk about something that is often avoided at the dinner table, and left out of polite conversations. Namely, septic systems. Or, as my three-year-old would put it, poop.

he Sonoma County Agriculture and Open Space District does, which is one of the reasons why it, under the guidance of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, offers a matching grant program that enables nonprofits and public agencies, including the county’s nine cities, to apply for funding for community and urban open space projects. Over the history of the matching grant program, the Ag & Open Space District has provided more than $33 million in funding.
