Roy Zimmerman, a San Francisco native, speaks by phone from Madison, Wisconsin, where he’s performing. Though they live in Lake County, he and his wife, Melanie Harby, spend two-thirds of the year traveling to shows together, which he has called “entertaining the troops.” Talking in terms of a current “national nightmare,” he says he meets many people around the country who are dealing with it. “We always stress the laughter, but encourage people to come away from the show empowered, not just entertained.” “It’s a whole new political landscape, unfortunately it’s a Jackson Pollack.”

Pete Sears refers to himself as “an aging rock ‘n’ roll musician” in our recent interview, describing the genre as “an all-encompassing form of music, influenced by everything.” He hit the big stage in 1974, as bassist and keyboardist for Jefferson Starship. It was a utopian era of unbridled optimism, when hopes, dreams, and hallucinations merged with reality.
He’s currently a member of the local bands, Moonalice, the David Nelson Band, and the Green Leaf Rustlers with former Black Crowes vocalist, Chris Robinson.

If telling you Joe Louis Walker is a member of the Blues Hall of Fame, a two-time Grammy winner, and a four-time Blues Music Award winner, isn’t enough to get you out to see him headline the Apple Blossom Festival, I may as well stop typing. Born in San Francisco, a 1949 Christmas Day present for a family originally from Cleveland, Mississippi, Walker learned the blues from his father’s 45s and 78s. “Blues was a natural to me,” Walker says during our early March phone interview. He describes the blues scene during his teenage years as “very healthy,” allowing him to perform with classic East Bay artists such as Lowell Fulson and Jimmy McCracklin.
