Sonoma County Guide to Pools, Rivers, Lakes and Boat Rentals. Summer is all about playing in the water. The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know is how to if you don’t know yet - take lessons or use a life vest for safety. Whether you are ON the water in a canoe, kayak or boat - or IN the water swimming - Sonoma County has plenty of opportunities for fun in the sun.

Petaluma Swim Center

The Swim Center has a 50-meter heated outdoor pool and a heated wading pool from 2-3 feet deep. The complex includes heated showers, dressing rooms, a large deck and picnic areas. It is run by the City of Petaluma Parks and Rec Dept.

Rio Nido Roadhouse - Swimming Pool

Day Pass $8/person. Weekly, monthly, and family rates available. Lifeguard is always on duty. Benicia Pool

Honeybee Pool

Magnolia Pool

Windsor Senior Center Pool

Outdoor therapeutic pool, (85-88 degrees) For seniors 55+ & their grandchild. Children only allowed the first hour of open swim. Open Swim for Seniors: Check website for schedule. Adult must be present. No Family Swim July 7 & 14. Call to confirm current season: 707-838-1250. Hours are based on Lifeguard Availability. The Senior Center and the pool will be closed on Memorial Day, May 29th, July 4th, and Labor Day, September 4th.

Lakes & Rivers

Regional Parks continues to partner with city recreation departments to offer the “Vamos a Nadar/Let’s Go Swimming” program through early July. The program offers low-cost bilingual swim lessons to children and water-safety training to parents. For more information and to register, call 707-565-8034.


Doran Regional Park
201 Doran Beach Rd., Bodega
A Sonoma County Regional Park with Bodega Bay access. Open daily, dawn to dusk. $7 per vehicle. FREE with park pass. Swimming (no lifeguard), boating, camping, picnic areas. 2-mile stretch of sandy beach, a popular place for visitors to picnic, build sand castles, fly kites, surf, fish and stroll. A rock jetty at the harbor mouth provides access for fishing, crabbing and exploring sea life. The boat launch can accommodate up to 20-foot boats. A parking lot is located adjacent to the launch and can handle 30 vehicles with trailers.

Westside Regional Park
2400 Westshore Rd., Bodega Bay
One-half mile from Spud Point Marina
A Sonoma County Regional Park with Bodega Bay access. Open daily, dawn to dusk. $7 per vehicle. FREE with park pass. No swimming. The park is ideal for fishing, with its boat launch and fish-cleaning station. A large vehicle and boat parking lot is located adjacent to the launch. Picnic tables and restrooms are on-site. The park is near stores and tackle shops. Marine fuel may be purchased at Spud Point Marina. Dogs allowed on leash.


Cloverdale River Park

Sonoma County Regional Park with Russian River access. Open Daily 7a - sunset. $7 parking fee - Free with Park Pass. Beach area. No lifeguards. Seasonal launch canoes and kayaks. No formal facility. Picnic area w/BBQs. Paved, wheelchair accessible trails and group picnic areas. No fires or barbecues allowed on the beach. Dogs allowed on leash.


Steelhead Beach Regional Park
9000 River Road, Forestville
A Sonoma County Regional Park with Russian River access. Open daily, 7a-sunset, $7 parking fee or Free wit a park pass. Swim at your own risk, no lifeguard on duty. Small craft boat launch. Picnic area with BBQs. ADA access to developed areas, group picnic areas, path to the Russian River.

Forestville River Access ( Mom's Beach )

Open 7a and closes 1/2 hr. before sunset. No alcohol. Free parking. There are no lifeguards at this beach, so please wear a life vest and take other safety precautions if entering the river.  The small parking area fills quickly in summer months, and overflow parking is not available. Dogs allowed on leash.

Sunset Beach River Park

Open 7a- 1/2 hr before sunset. Fires of barbecuing allowed in designated picnic area near the parking lot/trailhead. $7 parking. 

Regional Parks also resumes its seasonal Russian River safety patrol on Memorial Day weekend. The patrol is a  roving team of bilingual lifeguards and rangers who visit SteelheadSunset, Riverfront, and Forestville River Access beaches Fridays through Mondays. They fit visitors with loaner life vests, which are strongly recommended on the river, and talk with beachgoers about water safety. Visitors are urged to practice extreme caution this year as the river is flowing faster than usual, and environmental conditions, such as snags and drop-offs, may have changed considerably due to winter floods.  Dogs allowed on leash.


Johnson’s Beach and Resort

Healdsburg Veterans Memorial Beach

JENNER & North Coast

Jenner Visitor’s Center Boat Ramp

Free small craft boat launch. Restrooms.

Gualala Point Regional Park

Open daily sunrise to sunset, parking $7, buses and trucks more, FREE with park pass. Dogs OK on leash and with rabies certificate. Day use & camping. Located adjacent to Gualala River with sandy beaches and fishing. Visitors center

Stillwater Cove Regional Park
22455 Hwy 1, Jenner
Open daily, dawn to dusk. $7 per vehicle. FREE with park pass. Small beach (no lifeguard) with boat launch open year-round for small boats and kayaks. Popular with scuba and abalone divers. A portage to the Cove and the ocean is within a short walking distance of the launch.


Monte Rio Public Beach
At the Monte Rio Bridge off Hwy 116
Park open year-round, daily dawn to dusk.
Beach area, no lifeguard. Dog friendly.

Petaluma Marina
781 Baywood Drive, Petaluma
Boat Launch Day Use: $5.00. Season passes available. No fee for kayak and canoe put-in.
The waters of the Petaluma Marina are part of the Petaluma River, a channel that runs fourteen miles from the north end of Petaluma to the San Pablo Bay. The river is enjoyed for its excellent boating, fishing, and water skiing.

Petaluma River Turning Basin

Black Point Boat Launch
Located in Novato, Marin County, off Hwy 37, just under Petaluma River Bridge
Popular 2-acre Marin County park features single-lane boat launch for motorized and non-motored boats on to the Petaluma River.


Spring Lake Regional Park
A Sonoma County Regional Park located between Annadel State Park and Howarth Park

Water Park with inflatable playground features bounce islands, bridges, climbing cliffs, trampoline, balance beam and more. All day admission is $10 per person, season pass $60. Open Memorial day - Labor day. 


Hudeman Slough Boat Launch – Access to San Pablo Bay

Milt Brandt Visitor’s Center
3333 Skaggs Springs Rd., Geyserville
2 miles from Public Boat Launch and Marina
Exhibits explain the cultural and natural history of the Dry Creek Valley. Campfire programs, Junior Rangers, water safety programs, and tours of the fish hatchery are some of the audiovisual and ranger-led programs offered at the visitor center. Horseback riding and archery.  Open daily 9-4p. Fish Hatchery closes at 3:30. Call to confirm hours open.

Yorty Creek Recreation Area
Off Hot Springs Road accessible by car from Cloverdale. For A nice family area for picnicking, swimming, bank fishing, and picnics. Facilities include chemical toilets, free sheltered picnic areas, a car-top boat launch (no trailers allowed), and a swim beach. Sorry no drinking water is available at Yorty Creek. Yorty Creek is managed as a day use area. Boat-in campers wishing to launch and park overnight at Yorty Creek must check in with the visitor center and obtain a parking permit to avoid receiving a citation. Swim at your own risk, as there is no lifeguard on duty and please keep an eye on your children. Sorry, no glass or dogs allowed on the swim beach.

Lake Sonoma Marina
100 Marina Rd., Geyserville

Open year round. Swimming, Dry Camping, Picnic areas. Canoe, kayak, ski boats, fishing boats for rent. Summer Hours: Sunday - Thurs: 8am - 6pm; Fri. & Sat 8-7p. 2 Public Boat launches. 


River Front Regional Park 
7821 Eastside Rd. Healdsburg (But closer to Windsor)

Open 7a-sunset, $7 per vehicle or free with park pass. No Swimming. The park features two beautiful lakes for fishing, kayaking, canoeing and stand-up paddling. A 2-mile trail loops around the larger lake, Lake Benoist, with a short spur to a small beach on the Russian River. A .5-mile trail winds through a majestic grove of coast redwoods. The redwood forest also features one of Regional Parks' largest and loveliest group picnic areas with a large barbecue, a volleyball area, and a horseshoe pit.

Rubicon Adventures
In Sonoma County - SUP 101: a skill course and river tour near historic Wohler ridge. Participants learn turns, eddies, currents, self-rescue, and paddle skills. We do a 4 mile guided tour through one of the most scenic and secluded sections of the Russian River. Included are snacks and swimming.  Experienced paddlers are encouraged to join us for tours of Bolinas, Dillon Beach, Russian River, and Tomales Bay. King’s Sport and Tackle

Lotus Kayak Rentals
Call John for reservations up to the night before your planned excursion and he’ll meet you with kayaks near Jenner public boat ramp. Mornings are best for launching. Kayak rentals available year-round. Doubles and singles, $20/person for all day.

Recreational, touring, fishing & double kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, inflatable kayaks and whitewater rafts. Rental rates start at: single kayak 4 hrs for $50, paddle board 4 hrs for $55.
