Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Sonoma County is celebrating the achievements of outstanding members in its annual Youth of the Year events. Youth of the Year is the premier youth recognition program which highlights young people’s character, personal growth, academic performance, and leadership qualities. A total of 1,142 youth is being recognized for being outstanding Club Members.
“We look forward to Youth of the Year all year long,” said Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Sonoma County CEO Jennifer Weiss. “These events are such a wonderful way to bring together everyone that makes our work possible and so successful; the kids we serve, their parents, our donors and volunteers, our school partners, and community advocates. We all join together to celebrate the hard work of our members on their journey to become productive, caring, and responsible citizens.”
The Roseland area event took place on Wednesday, April 24th and recognized youth from the Sheppard, Roseland Village, Roseland, and RAMS Clubs.
We are proud to announce Anahi Galvan of the RAMS Club, Hailey Guevara of the Roseland Club, Sierra Olvera of the Sheppard Club, and Artemio Carlos-Sanchez of the Roseland Village Club as Overall Youths of the Year in Roseland! These young people embody our core values and are outstanding members of the Clubs.
In addition we recognized Citlaly Dominguez, Citlali Santos, Jaden Tucker, and Karina Miguel in Academic Success, Lear Kanye Hurst-Diaz, Nayely Barajas, Litzy Ariza, and Alexa Velasquez in Character and Leadership,Rodrigo Gutierrez,Nereida Zamora, Stephanie Hernandez, and Alexis Abrica in Health and Life Skills, Christopher Nunez, Brenda Flores, Deborah Cruz, and Araceli Gonzalez in The Arts, and Rodrigo Gutierrez, Alfredo Mendoza, Juan Lopez, and Heriberto Gutierrez in Sports, Fitness, and Recreation.
The evening opened with an amazing meal (including fortune cookies) sponsored by the Panda Cares Organization of Panda Express and the evening closed with a colorful and thrilling performance by the local Ballet Folklorico Dancers from the Roseland and Sheppard Clubs. Henry Hansel from Hansel Auto Group presented teen Member Maria Martinez a surface computer and $450 gift certificate for winning the Ford Motors “Drive Your Dream” Essay Contest Award.
Youth of the Year is the pinnacle event of the Clubs’ ongoing Youth of the Month program. Each month, at over 35 locations operated by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Sonoma County, five youth are recognized for their success in one of the five core areas of the organization; The Arts, Character and Leadership, Academic Success, health and Life Skills, and Sports, Fitness and Recreation.
This program is designed to recognize Club members for going above and beyond and to inspire others to do the same. The Youth of the Month program is one of the key ways that the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Sonoma County realizes its mission to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible, citizens.
