It is the art of expression that gives creative meaning to the unknown and unnamed, however it is the interpretation and understanding of the work that moves us beyond the intimacy of sight, sound, and touch. Join more than 35 artists during ENGAGE Art Fair held April 6-8 in Calistoga, where art becomes a transcending experience of the senses.
The weekend is ramping up to be one of the most exciting pop-up galleries in the Bay Area. Unlike any other art collective, ENGAGE Art Fair by vonsaal design hosts an open studio format allowing enthusiasts to both witness and experience the creative process demonstrated by some of the most talented artists in the Bay Area. Held for just three days in Calistoga at the Napa County Fairgrounds, this carefully curated roster of artists will blow you away. And don’t be fooled by the venue, the 11,000 ft2 industrial space has all of the edge and draw of a city district.
This year’s line-up includes The Baker Sisters, Simone McManus, Edmund Ian Grant, Thomas Haddy, Jennifer LaPierre, Jane Bowyer, Teri Sandison, and many more. For a complete list of artists, please visit celebratenapavalley.org/ENGAGE. This year’s portfolio includes paintings, photography, jewelry, ceramics, fiber, wood, stone, metal, glass, music, food and beverage. This exclusive mash-up of multi-media will redefine the boundaries of artistic interpretation and enthrall your imagination with taste, texture, and technique.
On opening night, Jonah Ward will demonstrate the craft of working with molten glass in a creation that takes on a life of its own. Ward’s canvas of wood alights with heat in a series of organic and fluid lines, straight and intersecting into a drawing formed with glass. His work reflects controlled chaos and captures the raw intensity of the process. Catch Jonah’s demonstration during the Preview Party (a ticketed event) on Friday, April 6.
For thousands of years, the art of jewelry making has been honed to express love, faith, tribute, and status. We are excited to welcome Scout Mandolin to the Preview Party, a luxury brand jeweler creating one-of-a-kind pieces that showcase the personality and essence of their clients. See firsthand the expert craftsmanship of balancing precious materials with self-reflection and identity.
Abstract cult artist, Nate Geare will rock the scene with his blend of film noir and street art in his corn hole series. Geare transforms the canvass of a backyard college game into a depiction of contemporary Pop Art Americana, using humor and classic cult film references. Over the weekend, ENGAGE Art Fair patrons will have the chance to win a set in this series during a real match for corn hole victory.
Witness the age-old craft of turning stone with upcoming artist Thomas Haddy. Two pieces are never alike as the stone lends itself to natural variation. Haddy’s steady hand reflects the smooth symmetry and balance of the ancient technique resulting in polished beauty. Husband and wife team, William Callnan III and Nikki Ballere Callnan of Napa Valley’s NBC Pottery will be showcasing their unique talents in a clay throw-off! Watch in wonder as Will demonstrates the craft of throwing large forms while Nikki’s hand for details captures an essence all her own in miniature forms. Guests will get to be judge and jury for this mesmerizing process of throwing on the potter’s wheel.
Every aspect of ENGAGE Art Fair is designed to enhance the experience of connecting with and to art of all mediums. It is through this vast display of creative minds that the art appropriately reflects the diversity of culture and community.
Entrance to ENGAGE Art Fair is complimentary both Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8.
