Welcome to February. Home to Valentine's Day and The Oscars. The nominations came out last week and I'm very excited that my high school friend, Sam Rockwell got nominated for best supporting actor for his work in “Vice”. He won last year for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”. It would be amazing if he won twice in a row. His biggest competition is Mahershala Ali for his work in “Green Book”. Ali won two years ago for his work in “Moonlight”. Either way, one of these actors will be winning two Oscars in three years. Amazing! I hope Amy Adams wins best supporting actress for her work in “Vice”. She has been nominated five times before but has never won.
Amy Adams' competition is Regina King for her work in “If Beale Street Could Talk”. Glenn Close has never won an Oscar! I know it's unbelievable. She has been nominated six times before. This can be her year for her work in “The Wife”. Her biggest competition in the best actress category is Lady Gaga for her work in “A Star is Born”. Christian Bale can win his second Oscar for his work in “Vice”. His competition in the best actor category is Rami Malek for playing Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody”. My choice for best picture is “A Star is Born” and I'm very disappointed Bradley Cooper wasn't nominated for best director. I am excited that Spike Lee was nominated for his first best director Oscar for his work in “BlackkKlansman”. I can't believe he didn't get nominated for “Do the Right Thing” back in 1989.
Movies released this month include “Jacob's Ladder” starring Michael Ealy. It comes out February 1st.
Kids of all ages will be excited to see “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World”. It comes out February 22nd.
Also coming out February 22nd is “Fighting With My Family” starring Dwayne Johnson as himself and Vince Vaughn.
Coming out February 8th is “What Men Want” starring Taraji P. Henson and Max Greenfield. It's like a remake of “What Women Want” starring Mel Gibson.
Also coming out February 8th is “Cold Pursuit” starring Liam Neeson, Emmy Rossum and Laura Dern.
Coming out February 13th is “Isn't It Romantic” starring Rebel Wilson and Liam Hemsworth. Just in time for Valentine's Day. Wilson is always entertaining. You can't go wrong with this one.
If you haven't seen ”Roma” or “Vice” you still have a chance. They're showing at the Rialto in Sebastopol. Start a new tradition and see a movie for Valentine's Day.
For my live theater fans, 6th Street Playhouse presents “Million Dollar Quartet”. In 1956 a twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together for one unforgettable night. Step inside the recording studio to witness hits like “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Great Balls of Fire”. It runs from February 22nd through March 17th. Call 707 523 4185 for more information.
