SHE RISES 2018 VOTING ENDORSEMENTS

As a citizen, it is our right, duty, and responsibility to express how and by whom we will be governed. SheRISES is providing the following voting endorsements for the benefit of our Sonoma County community.

Governor

Gavin Newsom

Lt. Governor

Eleni Kounalakis

Secretary of State

Alex Padilla

Controller

Betty T. Yee

Treasurer

Fiona Ma

Attorney General

Xavier Becerra

Insurance Commissioner

Ricardo Lara

Member, State Board of Equalization

2nd District

Malia Cohen

United States Senator

Dianne Feinstein

United States Representative

2nd District

Jared Huffman

SheRISES recognizes this is a symbolic vote; we support her stance on housing, environment, and energy.

SheRISES votes “No” against Associate Justice of the State Supreme Court, Carol A. Corrigan, who failed to support equal marriage rights in her court in 2008.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction

Tony K. Thurmond

Proposition 1 – Bonds: Affordable Housing

SUPPORT

Proposition 2 – Bonds: Housing for Mentally Ill

SUPPORT

Proposition 3 – Bonds: Water Systems; New Dams

OPPOSE

Proposition 4 – Bonds: Children’s Hospitals

NO ENDORSEMENT. SheRISES questions the fact that most of the benefit will go to private hospitals.

Proposition 5 – Property Tax Change

OPPOSE

Proposition 6 – Gasoline Tax Repeal

OPPOSE

Proposition 7 – Permission for Legislature to Eventually Opt Out of or Change Daylight Savings Time Period

SUPPORT

Proposition 8 – Kidney Dialysis Price Controls

NO ENDORSEMENT. While this measure would increase taxpayer cost, it appears to be a private battle between unions and corporations.

Proposition 10 – Allow Municipalities to Control Rents

SUPPORT

Proposition 11 – EMT On-Call

OPPOSE

Proposition 12 – Farm Animal Confinement

OPPOSE. SheRISES supports animal welfare and rights, but Prop 12 weakens Prop 2 Guidelines approved in 2008, and is a setback. Enforcement will be difficult and costly. We are waiting for better legislation to genuinely protect all animals.

Measure M – County Parks Funding (one-eighth of one cent per dollar, that is, a 0.125% Retail Sales Tax, to expire March 31, 2029)

SUPPORT

Most Sonoma County communities have measures on the ballot; please consider supporting your local community for valid measures, such as Measure J and Measure U in Monte Rio.
