Regular readers of this column know that last month I mentioned our effort to save an injured red-tailed hawk found along 101 near the Independence exit. This month, I am so pleased that we were able to witness its release back into the wild by Brad Marsh of Sonoma County Bird Rescue. He contacted the kind staff at Coppola’s winery, near where the hawk was found, who granted permission for the rescued raptor to be released on their land. The release site was up well behind the winery building complex where the hawk would have a little space to get reoriented to living in the wild. Hopefully, there will no temptation to go back down toward the highway right away.

This year’s renowned Michelin Guide finally includes Geyserville — Dino Bugica’s Diavola Pizzeria and Salumi has been noted under the “Bib Gourmand” category, a special category recognizing outstanding but less pricy and more casual restaurants that are the best in their categories… that “less pricy and more casual” can also be read as simply “much more fun” restaurants! Along with Diavola’s “Slow Food” Golden Snail recognition, and various other awards, they’re about to run out of window-posting space.

I’ve discovered that the Nevada Seismological Laboratory has a website showing six fire lookout videos of our Northern California area, updated several times a minute. In the Geyserville vicinity, there is one on Geyser Peak though it shows the view from the eastern side of the mountain. The Pine Mountain camera comes closest to covering our area.
