The word is that American Water may be considering adding fluoridation to our wonderful local water. While this practice was touted as a “Health Benefit” for many years, the science is piling up against fluoride, which is a known and proven neurotoxin that especially affects young children. If your toddler swallows more than a tiny amount of toothpaste, you are supposed to call your local Poison Control Center. That’s not because of the mint flavoring or some other ingredient, it’s because of the fluoride content.

“Thank you” to the Geyserville Fire department and their colleagues throughout the county, and also to the many firefighters that came from far away to help spare so much of Sonoma County from the flame. I think we are all hoping for a peaceful “normal” fall season here in Northern Sonoma County. Will we get it? That remains to be seen but with so many of us now extremely fire aware I am hoping that we will have a smoke free season. I was recently traveling in Greece and passed through the fire-devastated community of Mati, just outside of Athens, where many lost their lives a year ago. Unexpected fires are a growing worldwide problem but here’s hoping that we can unite to cope with these long fire seasons.

One event that returns with the season is the monthly Geyserville Chamber of Commerce dinner series held every second Tuesday from September to June. The last Sunset Music Series event this year at The Ranch at Lake Sonoma happens on Sunday, September 8th. The inaugural season for this series at The Ranch has been a smashing success. Looking ahead to October, be sure to get your tickets for the 4th Annual Geyserville Beer, Wine and Spirits Festival slated for October 13th.

I'm admittedly anxious — two years ago I planted one of my favorite flowers, the giant Sea Squill. These striking tall flower spikes grow to four or five feet and are common on sea cliffs throughout the Mediterranean.
