What’s Our Fair Share of the Tourist Tax? There is always a lot of talk about how the West County generates the lion’s share of the Transient Occupancy Tax, or TOT tax.  For anyone who doesn’t know what that is, it’s a bed tax that hotels and vacation rentals in Sonoma County charge their guests.

Sorry for the redundant articles about the Lower Russian River Municipal Advisory Council, or MAC, however I’m still hearing people say “What’s a MAC?”  It’s a big deal, and this will be the last article before you start getting your MAC ballots in the mail, which should be arriving shortly after November 7th.  If you don’t want to mail in your ballot, or you don’t receive one, there will also be an in-person caucus on Saturday, November 17th, at which full-time residents can alternatively vote for their district reps. in person.  Visit the website for additional details.

Concerned about preventing discrimination from rearing its ugly head in Guerneville? Have any complaints or suggestions for our local law enforcement? Maybe you would just like to thank law enforcement for providing us with a dedicated deputy and doing a good job at treating all of our community members with fairness and respect? Wanna talk about how homelessness or immigration policies affect our community? The Sonoma County Human Rights Commission (HRC) and the Independent Office of Law Enforcement Review and Outreach (IOLERO) will be bringing a road show here to Timberline (16440 4th St, Guerneville) on Thursday, Sept. 27th at 5:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Incoming Sheriff Essick and Supervisor Hopkins will also be attending.
